Is your Garage Safe?

Garages are fun additions to your property, whether they’re integral to your house or a separate facility. Given the harsh conditions that English weather is known for, a place to protect your vehicles and other belongings from the elements is always welcome. However, when you use the garage for storing and maintaining vehicles, too many things can still happen inside such a confined space. You will need fire risk assessment specialists to determine their overall safety per the Fire Safety Order of 2005, putting some critical elements into account.

Fire
Sometimes it takes nothing but a wayward spark to cause chaos in the garage, especially when volatile materials are stored inside. A fire risk assessment programme may recommend installing fire extinguishers and training the crews how to use them, including running them all through periodic fire drills. A fire alarm system must be installed and tested.

Slip-and-trip
Everyone knows that garages can reek of oil and grease stains all over the floor, which can trigger some slippery hazards in addition to the aforementioned fire danger. A potential remedy for this matter is to establish main storage and walkway lines using special tape while performing weekly degreasings on the entire floor. If your garage is also a repair workshop of sorts, you can post placards prohibiting customers from the work area, with your personnel ready to usher them away from it.

Safety is paramount when you’re working at a garage. Having your place checked for issues will make a difference.
